Dave has over twenty years’ experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications in a diverse range of technologies, many of which incorporate aspects of machine learning, artificial intelligence, automation, autonomous platforms, and other complex computer-based software. With a background in military aircraft avionics, nuclear plant instrumentation and controls, and as an electrical engineer, Dave has prepared and prosecuted patent applications that encompass computer software and hardware, as well as electronic circuitry, antennas, and mobile devices, as applied to a wide range of information, communication, and computing systems.
At FIG. 1, we have established a unique culture in which all Partners continue to draft our clients’ patent applications. This gives us practical insight into the current state of the law which helps us to review and instruct others to pass this craft forward to our talented Associates and Interns. We enjoy the nuanced aspects of creating an illustrative, readable, and understandable patent application derived from a complex, technical innovation that starts in the minds of the many great Inventors we work with. This continues through collegial relationships with the patent Examiners to the final issued Patent that protects our clients’ underlying, technical idea in a readily understood manner. We take great pride in being our clients’ most trusted and reliable partner.
The practice of drafting patent applications is both a complex art and science. At FIG. 1, we continue to leverage our previous experiences to develop, evolve, and improve with every new patent application drafted, and our dedication and expertise has garnered recognition in several technology areas. Many of our brightest and best practitioners have worked together for many years, which is reflected in our long‑standing client relationships and continuity in our work product.
When not in the office, Dave enjoys getting outdoors in the great Northwest where we have an abundance of beautiful country. He will also tell you that he is exceptionally great at mediocre golf.
