Jamie has over twenty years’ experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications in a diverse range of technologies. Jamie has been fortunate to draft patent applications for machine learning and artificial intelligence used with content creation and post-processing for companies such as Adobe, hundreds of semiconductor patents for companies including Intel, HP, and LSI Logic, AR/VR devices and computing hardware for Microsoft, patents for e-commerce and digital marketing that address the current complexities of prosecution in front of the USPTO, and so on.

At FIG. 1 we enjoy what we do, and our client interactions reflect this. From in-person brainstorming sessions to one-on-one video conferences, this results in a process that is enjoyable and technically sound.

By making the patent process enjoyable to inventors, the inventors are more likely to engage in this process again. Likewise, building a rapport with examiners over collegial interviews using well-reasoned agendas advances prosecution and reduces client costs. This also improves our clients’ reputations with the patent office and has resulted in tangible benefits reflected in our allowance rates. All of this makes the patent process enjoyable to our clients’ in-house counsel.

We make the oftentimes complicated ideas of a patent approachable by everyone. From the technical expertise of inventors and patent examiners to the varied backgrounds of a jury during patent infringement litigation, this approach is tailored to understanding the technical problem and how that problem is addressed by the patent application. This approach answers the “how” and “why” of the underlying technology and innovation. In this way, we draw forth the innovation from a single example to protect the actual underlying idea.

When not in the office, Jamie enjoys exploring the lakes and mountains of eastern Washington and Northern Idaho with his family.
