Evan's education and professional background spans a wide variety of technology areas. He began his career as a graphic designer working on projects including printed materials, user interface design, and website frontend coding. His experience as a designer led to an expertise in both 2D and 3D solutions for digital image creation, spectrophotometry tools for color space transformation and gamut mapping, and heavy equipment including CNC routers and grand format printers.
Following his experience in the design industry, Evan expanded his education and completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics at the University of Oregon. The wide scope of subject matter included in the study of physics provided a solid foundation for a transition to technical writing. Evan joined his previous firm, McCoy Russell LLP, as a technical specialist preparing and prosecuting patent applications directed toward innovations in areas including medical devices and automotive machinery. Leveraging his experience in the design industry provided him with the ability to successfully expand the scope of his work to include design patents. As a result, he is uniquely positioned in his approach to intellectual property matters— by assessing both of the form and the function of an inventive concept, Evan is able to identify aspects that may be well suited for design patent protection or utility patent protection, providing for a well-balanced client patent portfolio.
In his free time, Evan is a maker with many interests such as drawing, woodworking, sewing, and other types of fabrication.
