Jacob Rooksby

IP Optimization Strategist

Jacob is Smithmoore P. Myers Dean and Professor of Law and Leadership Studies at Gonzaga University School of Law. He knows how to help clients get the most out of their intellectual property. With a background in patent litigation and contentious IP matters, Jacob has advised companies large and small on optimizing their IP holdings to meet strategic goals, with particular emphasis on trademark prosecution and portfolio counseling. A lawyer and educator, in 2016, he published a book on IP and higher education, The Branding of the American Mind, with Johns Hopkins University Press, and his articles about IP have been published in leading technology law journals at Harvard and Yale. Prior to joining FIG. 1, Jacob practiced law with Dentons Cohen & Grigsby in Pennsylvania and McGuireWoods LLP in Virginia. Jacob is an elected member of the American Law Institute, a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, and a member of the bar of the Supreme Court of the United States. An avid enthusiast of the outdoors who has summited the highest point of elevation in 44 states, Rooksby enjoys hiking, golfing, skiing, and camping with his family.
