Numbers Tell Part of the Story
Whether you are a founder, CEO, or head of patents, it can be tough to select a patent law firm that you can trust to prepare and prosecute patent applications that protect your company’s valuable assets. Last year, there were 802 law firms, in the U.S. alone, with at least 50 issued patents, and many of those firms can point to at least one favorable metric. At FIG. 1, we are proud of our numbers, which include a top 10 ranking for quality, a 90% allowance rate on thousands of issued patents, and a #1 ranking for Artificial Intelligence patents.
Top 10 for Quality and #6 in Tech Center 2600 | At FIG. 1, we work tirelessly to ensure that our clients obtain quality patents. In 2020, Patent Bots ranked us in the top 25 out of 802 U.S. firms for quality based on the “average number of errors found in issued patents.” If their list is further filtered to firms with at least 200 issued patents in 2020, then we rank in the top 10 of all firms last year. We were also ranked the #6 firm for quality in Tech Center 2600. We take pride in these metrics because it shows our firm’s commitment to drafting and prosecuting quality patent applications for our clients.
90% Allowance Rate and Over 200 Issued Patents in 2020 | At FIG. 1, we have obtained thousands of patents with an overall allowance rate of 90% according to Juristat. In 2020 alone, we helped procure over 200 patents for our clients.
#1 Firm for Artificial Intelligence Patents | Last year we were ranked a #1 law firm for Artificial Intelligence patents for firms with over 25 issued AI patents. This ranking was compiled by Eric Sutton, Managing Patent Counsel at Oracle. In his article, Eric provides recommendations for companies trying to patent AI technologies:
“Work with attorneys who are experienced in successfully drafting and prosecuting AI-related cases. Top firms had allowance rates above 90%, while other firms had allowance rates as low as 0-63%. Also, top firms received, on average, less than one office action (e.g., a communication from the patent office rejecting the claims), while other firms received, on average 2-3 office actions from the patent office.”
